Adirondack Spirit Dancers

Monday, August 2, 9 - 11am 

Instructor: Andreé Dennis Newton

Materials: $22

Students will be supplied with cleaned, precut, gourd shapes to create a spirit dancer. The workshop will entail: cutting, decorating, and adorning your spirit dancer creation. Suitable for adults and children ages 10 and up.

Introduction to BRONZclay™ 

 

Monday, August 2, 9am - 3pm 

Instructor: Paula Tormey 

Fee: $125/$110 members 

This single day workshop will introduce students to the newest metal clay, BronzClay. Students will learn how to adapt silver clay techniques to bronze; make slip; join pieces; texture clay, and carve. Tips and techniques taught will include the use of a mandrel, drying the clay, estimating shrinkage, finishing, and adding colorful patinas. 

 

3 Tiered Primitive Gourd Bells 

Monday, August 9, 9 - 11am 

Instructor: Andreé Dennis Newton

Fee: $20/$16 members

Materials: $15

Using 3 gourd tops in various sizes students will prepare, design, and create a uniquely beautiful tiered gourd bell to display indoors or outside your home. Stains, paints, sinew, beads, bells, and finishes will be provided. This workshop is suitable for adults and children ages 10 and up.

 

 

Intro to Lampworking : Making Glass Beads

Session II: Mon., Aug. 9 - Fri., Aug. 13

Session III: Mon., Aug. 30 - Fri., Sept. 3 

All Sessions meet from 6 - 8pm

Instructor: Megan Crimmins

Fee: $250/$220 members

Making glass beads is called lampworking because hundreds of years ago, artisans heated glass using oil lamps. Today a propane/oxygen torch is used to heat glass rods to over 1700 degrees. This workshop is designed for the beginner, no glassworking experience required. Students will be introduced to the basics of shaping colorful glass in the flame of a stationary torch. Using gravity, a variety of tools, color, and form, small treasures will be created. Studio set-up and safety will be discussed, followed by periodic demonstrations and plenty of practice time to get students comfortable with melting glass and to explore surface decoration.

 

 

Origami Thursdays 

Thursday, August 12, 10-11:30am 

Fee: $24/$20 members 

Origami is the ancient art of paper folding. The word is Japanese, and literally means to fold (oru) paper(kami). Students will learn the different types of folds to make paper flowers and animals. Each participant will take home their own copy of Picture Perfect Origami a retail value of $21.95. 

 

Wikies - Primitive Gourd Doll Pin  

Monday, August 16, 9 - 11am 

Instructor: Andreé Dennis Newton

Materials: $12 

In this fun workshop students will be supplied with precut, cleaned, gourd shapes to create 3 “Wikies” (wearable pins.) This workshop will entail some sanding and cutting. Paints, beads, horse hair, etc. will be provided. This workshop is suitable for adults and children ages 10 and up. 

 

Daisies & Leaves Design Wine Glassses & Dessert Plates

Monday, August 16, 1-4pm
Suitable for ages 16 and up.

Materials:  $11

Re-Made Paper

Thursday, August 19, 10 - 11:30am

Fee: $12/$10 members

Making your own paper is fun, easy, and a delightful project. Homemade paper lends a distinctive personal touch to many projects like greeting cards, personal notes, letters, and scrap booking projects.

 

 


Wine Glasses – Pine Cone Design

Suitable for ages 16 and up. 

Paint a pine cone design on a set of two wine glasses. We will work with enamel paints and all supplies will be furnished. Class size is limited. Please register early for this popular class.

Suitable for ages 16 and up. Learn to paint for either personal use or for gift giving a loon head design on a set of two wine glasses. We will work with enamel paints and all supplies will be furnished.  Bring your willingness to be creative and enjoy the love of painting on glass.Class size is limited.  Please register early.

Martini Glasses - Olive 
Thursday, September 2, 2-4pm
Suitable for ages 16 and up.
Instructor:  Paula Tormey
Workshop Fee:  $18/$15 members

Suitable for ages 16 and up. Paint scattered olives on a set of two martini glasses. We will work with enamel paints and all supplies will be furnished.  Class size is limited.  Please register early.

 

Beginners Oil Painting
Wednesday, September 8, 9am-5pm
Instructor:  Paula Tormey
Fee:  $80/$70 members
Materials: $24

Never dabbled with oils--come, relax, and take home a finished project.

Learn the basic principles of landscape painting.  We will paint a landscape with a barn in it.  The materials fee provides for a 16x20 canvas, oil paint palette and the pattern.  A sample will be on display at the Arts Center.  Students will need to supply their own brushes, list available upon request. 

 

Checks & Berries Wine Glasses & Dessert Plates
Wednesday, September 22, 6-9pm
Suitable for ages 16 and up.

Fee:  $20/$17 members
Materials:  $11

Come to the Art Center for some wine and cheese and paint two wine glasses and two dessert plates with a checks and berries design.  Great for personal use or for gift giving. Students will work with enamel paints and all supplies will be furnished.  No experience needed.  Bring your willingness to be creative, enjoy the love of painting on glass, and share some wine and cheese with friends. Class size is limited.  Please register early.
